5 Home EV Charging Problems Solved by Wireless EV Charging

Electric vehicle owners love their cars. Why? EVs offer a superior ownership experience. Less maintenance, quiet rides, zippy turns and the beauty of charging at home.
For many EV drivers, upgrading from 120V charging to faster 240V or “Level 2” charging at home helps unlock the full convenience of electric driving. With Level 2 charging it is no problem to fully recharge overnight, even after a long trip.
Going Level 2 means thinking through the installation of a new high-powered outlet – including exactly where to install it.
Wireless EV Charging Can Be Easier to Set Up
On top of being simpler to use, wireless EV chargers are simpler to install in the first place. Why? Location, location, location.
With wireless Level 2 charging, EV owners have more freedom on where they can place their charger. The base system is connected to a 240-volt outlet, but the placement of that outlet is much more flexible. The Plugless wall unit can be installed anywhere within the driver’s line of sight during parking. It acts as a guidance system to let drivers know they’re lined up with the wireless charging pad. Once parked over the wireless charging pad, the vehicle charges itself.
Wireless Level 2 systems from Plugless are designed so that the electrical work required for outlet installation is no different than old-school corded systems. The only difference with installing Plugless is the greater range of installation locations.
Flexible placement is just one way Plugless charging can be the simplest charger you will ever own. Here’s how it solves five other common charging problems.
1. EV Charging in Small Garages
If a garage is small enough to require offloading cargo before pulling in, charge port access is limited. Wireless charging is the perfect solution. The Parking Pad can be positioned under the car’s normal parking space. Plugless takes care of charging the car automatically without drivers having to wedge themselves alongside the car to wrangle a manual plug.
2. All-Weather Charging – Snow? Sleet? Heat?
Snow? Sleet? Heat? Don’t stand in it to mess with frozen or dirty cables, just park and go. Weather, no matter how extreme, shouldn’t impact the experience of owning the best cars in the world. Wireless charging from Plugless operates in a wide range of temperatures: –22° to 122°F (–30° to 50°C). Here’s a video of Plugless charging through snow:
3. Security
Some EV owners who charge outdoors have concerns about charger theft and vandalism. Outdoor corded charging cables are well known targets of theft because of the ease in which they can be stolen. While it is possible to lock the plug head to your EV every night and lock it into a special box when you leave, it’s all a hassle. Especially when carrying groceries, unloading children, or just tired.
Plugless is an inherently more secure system because the Parking Pad is affixed to the parking space. Over more than two and a half years of installations, there has not been a single report of a Plugless theft. Wireless charging is simply secure by design. It’s the perfect complement to the amazing safety record of today’s electric vehicles.
4. Forgetting to Charge
One Plugless customer said it perfectly — it is “very irritating those mornings when you jump in the car and there is no charge.” It only takes forgetting occasionally to cause major headaches. Plugless is designed to be forgotten about and work anyway.

If you park, you are charging. That means every time you park, no matter what else is going on. It’s automatic. As that same customer said after installing Plugless, “Now [forgetting] isn’t an issue.”
5. Multi-EV Charging
Placing charging for multi-EV households only compounds the location issues. EV charge ports are almost always on the driver’s side, so one EV will always lack ideal corded charger location. With wireless charging, EV owners have a wide range of equally convenient options. This becomes increasingly important as the clean transportation vision is fully realized and more families go EV-only.

Wireless Charging Completes the EV Ownership Experience
Electric Vehicles are the cleanest, most hassle-free method of transportation with far fewer moving parts to maintain. Wireless EV chargers eliminate many hassles and are the most flexible chargers you can install at home and work. I’ll always take a technical advantage when I can get it. It’s why I went EV in the first place.
